Akira Kurosawa - High and Low

Although both the BFI website and the DVD cover state that it is 2.35.1 ratio, it appears that it is in fact 2.55:1 as had been reported in a number of reviews. Here is a similar frame from both the BFI release (top) and the Criterion release (bottom) which show the extra width of the BFI version. It is amazing Criterion would crop a film like this, when you see how it lessens the impact of the mirrored framing here with Gondo and the chauffeur for example.
